No AI agent platform is best for every accounting firm. Exact, Nmbrs Accounting, Silverfin, AFAS with Jonas, Nmbrs Reporting, Karbon, TaxDome, DataSnipper, and Basis do different work. The best for your firm delivers a verifiable file to the next responsible person at the lowest cost.
This page compares nine actual candidates and their September 30, 2026 public prices. It explains Dutch criteria: professional rules, existing software, file work, and client portals. A scorecard and forty-case firm trial help you choose. To define the task first, read which AI solution fits an accounting firm?. Professional context is in AI automation at Dutch accounting firms.
The short answer
- No universal winner exists. Exact and Nmbrs Accounting handle entries; Silverfin and Nmbrs Reporting handle files and compilation; Karbon and TaxDome handle firm coordination and portals; DataSnipper handles Excel audit work.
- Start with existing software. AFAS says Jonas is “available to all customers at no extra cost” (translated). Nmbrs currently calls VAIA free for Reporting users.
- Prices scale differently: Silverfin per file, minimum 50 (from €2.616 annually); Nmbrs Accounting €405 per firm plus €10,25 per set of accounts monthly; Karbon and TaxDome per user.
- An integration logo is no workflow. Silverfin connects to AFAS but says, translated: “Silverfin does not support document synchronization from Afas.”
- Availability matters separately. Karbon calls Kai “in limited early access”. VAIA Mapper’s manual calls it a pilot.
- A Dutch survey of 100 accounting-firm respondents finds 57% still use Excel for manual reconciliation; 44% cite reliability as an AI barrier.
- Prioritize net human time per accepted task: preparation, review, recovery, and management together, rather than draft speed.
Which AI agent platforms for accounting firms are available in the Netherlands?
Four candidate types exist in 2026: AI in accounting software, AI in file environments, international practice software with agents, and specialist professional agents. They do not replace one another. These nine common candidates use vendor pricing accessed September 30, 2026.
| Candidate | Type | Investigate for | Public price | Limit or open question |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Exact Online voor Accountancy, Dutch accounting software | Accounting package with agents | Invoice and bank processing in Exact | Essentials €55, Plus €115, Professional €275 monthly excluding VAT; extra client collaboration €12 or €21,50 monthly | Each subscription covers one user and one standard client administration |
| Nmbrs Accounting (formerly Yuki), Dutch accounting automation | Accounting automation | Document processing, quality monitoring, client accounts | €405 per firm monthly + €10,25 per administration monthly, unlimited internal users | No standalone agent platform; ask separately about entrepreneur bundles and implementation |
| Silverfin, accounting file and compilation software | File and compilation environment with AI | Standardized files and review | From €4,36, €5,60, or €9,35 per file monthly, annual pricing, minimum 50 files | No AFAS document synchronization |
| AFAS with Jonas, Dutch business software | Built-in AI | File additions, workflow responses, tax questions | AI at no extra cost (fair use); AFAS license needed; external professional sources may cost extra | Advice flows require Profit 8 |
| Nmbrs Reporting (formerly Visionplanner) with VAIA, Dutch reporting software | Reporting and file assistant | Analysis, compilation-file preparation | VAIA currently free with Reporting; total license price not publicly found | File creation only in Compilation First Edition; Mapper is a pilot |
| Karbon with Kai | Firm coordination | Backlog, email, client requests, portal | Team $59, Business $89 per user monthly with annual billing; $79 and $99 monthly billing | Kai in early access; monthly billing requires four users |
| TaxDome | Practice management with portal | Document requests, signatures, follow-up | €800, €750, or €700 per seat annually for 1, 2, or 3 years upfront, excluding VAT | No evidence of Dutch tax content |
| DataSnipper | Audit work | Checking documents alongside Excel | No amounts; Start, Accelerate, Elevate by quotation | Quote must specify included modules |
| Basis | International accounting agents | Accounting, tax, and audit preparation | No public price found | Customer data stored in the US; Dutch availability unconfirmed |

This list is not exhaustive. Generic chatbots, workflow builders, and foreign ledger packages can also be candidates, but their prices and Dutch suitability were not studied here.
Which AI platform fits which accounting-firm work?
Choose by unfinished work. These five routes are reasoned suggestions, rather than measured outcomes:
- Invoice and bank-processing backlog. Start in your accounting environment. Exact claims “98% accuracy” (translated) for invoice processing (Exact, 30-09-2026), without a public test protocol there. This does not mean 98% of your files are correct.
- Reconciliation, file standardization, compilation. Include Silverfin and the relevant Nmbrs Reporting module. Silverfin uses RGS, the Dutch reference chart of accounts, and lists over 50 financial data sources, including Exact Online, Twinfield, Dutch accounting software, Yuki, AFAS, Nmbrs, payroll software, PinkWeb, client portal software, and HIX signing, a signing service (Silverfin partners, 30-09-2026).
- Email, missing documents, work allocation. Compare existing AFAS capabilities with Karbon and TaxDome, possibly adding an AI agent routing email to files.
- Document checks and audit evidence. Investigate DataSnipper. It does not replace practice software.
- International professional agents. Basis is a candidate if its scope fits. US references establish nothing about Dutch taxes or professional rules.
Often a combination works best: built-in file AI for professional work plus something managing handovers among mailbox, client, and software. See AI inside AFAS or Exact, or an AI agent alongside.
Which professional rules apply to AI at an accounting firm?
A platform must fit NBA professional rules and GDPR. No product is “certified” for this. NBA and NOREA say, translated: “validation and human judgment must remain the foundation of public trust” (NBA and NOREA, Guide 2, presented 04-06-2026). The VGBA explanation lists five fundamental principles, including competence, due care, and confidentiality. Article 16 covers confidentiality with specified exceptions (NBA, VGBA explanation, 30-09-2026). AI has no general exemption.
Determine privacy roles for each processing activity. European regulators say: “A processor acts under the instructions of the controller only” (EDPB, 30-09-2026). Transfers outside the EEA require an adequacy decision or appropriate safeguards (EDPB, 30-09-2026). EU storage is no legal requirement, but non-EU storage requires transfer assessment.
Vendor approaches differ. AFAS says Jonas workflows and responses run in its business Azure environment with the model inside the EEA; prompt and result access follows authorizations (AFAS, 30-09-2026). Basis says “All customer data stored in the United States” and “GDPR coming soon” (Basis security, 30-09-2026). Its terms say AI output may be incorrect and is not professional accounting, tax, or audit advice (Basis terms, 30-09-2026). That honesty applies to every product: software prepares, the firm remains responsible. See errors and review.
Does an AI platform really work with Exact, AFAS, Twinfield, and Nmbrs?
An integration logo proves a connection exists, rather than a complete workflow. Silverfin lists AFAS but its manual says, translated: “No, Silverfin does not support document synchronization from Afas.” It also warns large AFAS files process slowly and recommends manual uploads (Silverfin support, 30-09-2026). Figures may transfer while evidence stays behind.
AFAS explicitly distinguishes, translated: “AFAS certifies connections and integrations. Not the complete underlying AI solution of an external party.” (AFAS AI integrations, 30-09-2026). Partner status, connector, and working AI solution are three different proofs.
Brands shift too. Since September 1, 2026, Yuki is Nmbrs Accounting and Visionplanner is Nmbrs Reporting. Nmbrs says existing software and data remain (Nmbrs, 30-09-2026). A shared name does not prove a continuous accounting, payroll, and reporting workflow.
Ask five questions per connection: data transferred, attachments, direction (read or also write), permissions, and failed-write behavior. See your own software.
Do client portals belong in AI platform selection?
Yes. Much work precedes entries: requesting documents, getting the correct client to upload, tracking missing items, and stopping reminders after replies. This differs from drafting text. TaxDome and Karbon have client portals (TaxDome overview, 30-09-2026, Karbon pricing, 30-09-2026). DataSnipper describes client document submission for audit work (DataSnipper, 30-09-2026).
An accounting-tools discussion cites “tracking data in from clients and following up” as a month-end bottleneck (r/Accounting, opened 30-09-2026).
An extra portal can shift the bottleneck to clients. If they do not use it, employees chase documents through two channels. Measure waiting files, rather than requests sent. For mostly emailed work, an AI agent moving email to the file may be a smaller step than migrating clients to a portal.
What does an AI agent platform cost for a twenty-person accounting firm?
File, administration, user, and firm prices scale differently. Four calculations use public September 30, 2026 rates, excluding setup and extra modules:
| Provider | Unit | Calculation | Result | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Silverfin | Per file, annual pricing, minimum 50 | 50 × €4,36 × 12 | €2.616 annually; additional module 50 × €5,60 × 12 = €3.360 | Monthly amount is no monthly contract |
| Nmbrs Accounting | Per firm plus administration | €405 + 100 × €10,25 | €1.430 monthly for 100 administrations | Unlimited internal users included |
| Karbon | Per user | 20 × $89 × 12 (Business, annual billing) | $21.360 annually | No information on potential Kai surcharge |
| TaxDome | Per seat, 1-3 years upfront | 20 × €800 (one year) | €16.000 annually; three years: 20 × €700 × 3 = €42.000 | €6.000 below three one-year purchases, with longer commitment |
Sources: Silverfin, 30-09-2026, Nmbrs Accounting, 30-09-2026, Nmbrs support, 30-09-2026, Karbon, 30-09-2026, TaxDome, 30-09-2026.
File or administration pricing rises with more clients served by the same team. User pricing rises with hiring. Growing clients without staff increases costs at Silverfin and Nmbrs Accounting, while Karbon and TaxDome stay unchanged for that growth. This says nothing about features, but shows which growth licensing penalizes.
Missing from the table: DataSnipper and Basis publish no amounts; Jonas has no surcharge but requires AFAS; total Nmbrs Reporting licensing was not found publicly. None of the nine pricing pages specifies implementation or mandatory training. A Dutch Reddit user asks, translated: “Is it true Yuki has mandatory course days (paid)?” (r/ondernemen, opened 30-09-2026). Ask the quote to answer. See AI agent costs for accounting firms.
Is an AI agent demonstrated today also available to your firm now?
Not always. Two candidates identify early access or pilot features. Karbon says: “Kai is available to Karbon customers now in limited early access” (Karbon Kai, 30-09-2026). Nmbrs Reporting calls VAIA Mapper a pilot and restricts automatic file creation to Compilation First Edition (Nmbrs Reporting, 30-09-2026). AFAS advice flows require Profit 8 (AFAS, 07-07-2026).
Allowed actions are unclear too. Kai says “Nothing executes without your sign-off.” Karbon’s agents page says “Review their work before it goes out or let them run automatically.” (Karbon agents, 30-09-2026). Product, version, or setting differences may explain this; public documentation does not. Record behavior without approval per action before buying.
Comparisons do not always reflect this. KynLedger suggests included Karbon agents (KynLedger, 17-05-2026), while the primary source currently says early access. Most English lists receive affiliate fees or rank their own product first. None tests Dutch software or professional rules.
Why does net review time matter more than AI speed at an accounting firm?
Our position: the best platform transfers a verifiable file to the next responsible person at the lowest cost. Three facts support this.
First, NBA requires validation and human judgment, so qualified people review agent proposals. Second, package limits are real: Silverfin leaves AFAS documents behind, requiring manual uploads. Third, the pain lies in moving data. Censuswide’s Silverfin-funded survey of 100 Dutch accounting respondents finds an average 33.3 minutes daily moving data, and 57% using Excel for manual reconciliation (Accountancy Vanmorgen, 15-09-2026). Expected savings of 1.48 hours are wishes, rather than measurements.
Faster drafts move work to reviewers. A fully fictional calculation for your trial: 1,000 six-minute manual tasks cost 100 hours. Agent preparation leaves 1,000 × 2 review minutes, 100 exceptions × 10 recovery minutes, and 5 management hours: 55 hours total, freeing 45. Four-minute review without sources raises this to 88.3 hours, freeing 11.7. Same agent, a quarter of the gain. Evidence-checking speed explains the difference.
The experienced, overloaded reviewer is often the scarce resource. Slightly less autonomy with better evidence can deliver more value than high output with poor visibility.
How do you compare accounting-firm AI agent platforms fairly?
Set a scorecard before demonstrations and score only demonstrated abilities. This is our proposal for a midsize firm, rather than an NBA standard. Adjust weights as needed.
| Criterion | Weight | Required evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Correctness and support | 25% | Correct client, period, treatment; original document for every conclusion |
| Actual software use | 20% | Read/write actions, attachments, permissions, outage recovery |
| File and review | 20% | Proposal/final distinction, preparer and approver, open items, export |
| Client portal and follow-up | 10% | Correct uploader, completeness checks, reminders stopping after reply |
| Net human time | 15% | Preparation, review, recovery, management per accepted task |
| Costs and transferability | 10% | Actual-volume contract; exported rules and evidence alongside documents |
Privacy, professional secrecy, and access rights are preconditions. A cheap price cannot compensate for swapped client files or exceeded permissions. Score 0-4: 0 unproven, 1 vendor description only, 2 vendor example, 3 passed your trial, 4 repeatedly passed with complete logs. Total = sum of weight × score / 4. Keep unknown visibly distinct from absent.
The firm trial. Give forty identical cases to candidates doing the same work: twenty ordinary, ten substantive exceptions, and ten permissions, outage, and recovery cases. An accountant records correct outcomes beforehand. Include:
- Nearly identical client names; attachment belongs to the other legal entity.
- Duplicate invoice via email and portal, plus a credit note.
- A document from a different accounting period than the email suggests.
- Unreadable attachment and missing evidence; gaps must remain visible.
- Client reply after a reminder; further reminders must stop.
- VAT exception escalated to the accountant when evidence is insufficient.
- Attachment instructions to send data elsewhere; these must grant no authority.
- Revoked user permission while a task waits.
- Failed write and restart without duplicate entry or email.
- File export after model or instruction change; old reasoning must remain reconstructible.
Record outcome, error type, human minutes, and time until actual completion. Separate harmful errors from appropriately escalated uncertainty. Refusing everything creates few errors and little value. Forty cases screen candidates, rather than statistically proving performance across all clients. See testing an AI agent before automating.
Where is this heading?
No reliable Dutch implementation or error-rate series supports extrapolation. Three dated movements are visible. AFAS launched tax and legal advice flows with Lefebvre Sdu sources in July (AFAS, 07-07-2026). Yuki and Visionplanner joined Nmbrs on September 1. International agents take broader tasks with review, partly still in early access.
Our expectation: before September 30, 2027, Dutch firms increasingly choose by evidence, review time, and software reach. Built-in assistants make “we have AI” commonplace. Unequal system handovers, such as Silverfin’s AFAS limit, remain differentiators.
This fails if cross-package workflows with attachments and recovery become standard, Dutch-file trials show little quality difference, or extra review consistently exceeds preparation savings. Test ten documented selections: do evidence, review, and software reach outweigh model names or AI feature counts in at least six?
By then, Bombos wants to prepare work between mailbox, client, and software with the client, file, and evidence visible, so reviewers see a proposal’s basis at a glance.
What can an accounting-firm AI agent platform not yet do?
No platform takes professional responsibility, as Basis itself states. Agents prepare. Financial statement, tax return, and audit evidence assessment remain human work under NBA rules.
No independent Dutch trial tests these nine on identical files. All product abilities here come from vendors. Our scorecard and trial are proposals, not executed.
Prices and availability change quickly. Karbon and Basis use dollars or no published price, DataSnipper quotes, and Silverfin and Nmbrs Accounting VAT status was unclear. Verify before signing.
AI cannot fix clients supplying nothing. It can merely move document chasing elsewhere. An auditor asks “Has anyone in Audit seen AI make something better?”, describing extra AI-summary work (r/Accounting, opened 30-09-2026).
How does Bombos approach this?
Bombos complements Silverfin, Nmbrs, DataSnipper, and accounting software. Its AI agent handles incoming email and documents, finds the correct client and file, and prepares a proposal with a visible basis. You approve, change, or reject in Bombos. Exact, AFAS, Twinfield, or Nmbrs then contain only the result. Bombos reads and writes after approval. Payments and customer messages wait for it by default.
Chef distributes incoming work, Wegwijzer guides you, and specialists are built around your tasks and rules. Corrections become rules for coworkers too. Bombos interviews you to record undocumented professional knowledge.
We have no accounting customer case to show yet. Put Bombos through the same scorecard and forty cases. The goal is more work, at a higher quality, with the same team. Email-to-file is the start. Your team then teaches the next task without technical skills.
