The Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (AP), the Dutch data protection authority, stands up for people who get filmed, and the FNV, a Dutch labor union, stands up for employees, while Google turns on automatic meeting notes in Meet by default for two subscription plans. Today: what that means for your house rules, your employees and your meetings.
Should I ban camera glasses in my house rules?
The AP warned yesterday: if you film other people with camera glasses, you may not simply use, share or publish that footage. For businesses: “The AP also advises organizations to ban the use of camera glasses in their house rules where necessary” (translated from Dutch).
The newest glasses use AI. Board member Katja Mur: “Camera glasses can collect data about the people around the wearer. Those people did not choose that themselves” (translated from Dutch).
For you, that is one rule in your house rules, for employees and visitors.

What does the FNV want on AI in collective agreements?
Working conditions coordinator Jacqie van Stigt of the FNV: “Besides the pay demand, this year we are also pushing at the bargaining table, for the first time, for employees to have a say over AI and for better enforcement of collective agreements” (translated from Dutch). The reason: “Our members see that it mostly increases workload and gets used as an excuse to reorganize” (translated from Dutch).
One example is the August collective agreement for architecture firms, which the FNV sums up this way: “Employers invest in knowledge and training around AI and discuss the effects of AI with the works council” (translated from Dutch). The FNV itself is a party at those bargaining tables.
No works council? Then the question remains whether your people have a say in how AI changes their work.

How do I turn off automatic meeting notes in Google Meet?
Starting September 29, Google is rolling out new settings for “Take notes for me,” the feature in Meet that automatically takes notes. Admins get one more choice: take notes automatically only in meetings with three or more people.
Who gets that by default? “Admins for Business Standard and Business Plus organizations: This new setting is ON by default.” For those two subscription plans, it is on without you doing anything; for Enterprise, it is not. Your admin can turn it off in the Admin console, and employees can turn it off in their own Meet settings starting September 29. Google itself sells the subscriptions and the AI features in them.

Where is this heading?
Google turns on automatic meeting notes by default for two subscription plans. That can create records that did not exist before, without anyone at your business choosing that. The AP does not mention meeting notes. Its reasoning about the people around the wearer applies, in my view, just as well to a client in that kind of meeting: they did not choose it either. And the FNV wants a say for employees.
So whether AI is watching becomes an agreement with people, not a checkbox at your vendor. My expectation: within a year or two, you will need to be able to explain what every AI in your business sees, what it records and who turned it on. A feature your vendor turned on for you will be the hardest one to explain.
At Bombos, that answer will be ready by then. You choose what it gets access to. What it learns comes from your approvals and corrections. It only books or sends something after you approve it.
What does this mean for your business?
Who chooses whether AI is watching? With camera glasses, not the people around the wearer. With Meet, Google chooses the default, unless your admin steps in. And the FNV wants employees to have a say.
For a client meeting, Bombos prepares an overview from your email and the software you use. Nobody needs to be recorded for that. That is the first task, not the whole offer: after that, your business delivers more work of higher quality with the same people. Our promise for preparing for a client meeting: the overview is ready for every meeting on your calendar. It shows what is going on, what is still open and what has been promised.
